How Is the Colonoscopy Screening and Symptoms?

A colonoscopy is a treatment for the large bowel examination. The Colonoscope is a long, flexible yet firm plastic tube with a small digital camera at one end and light on another end. The expert gastroenterologist guides this instrument carefully to the colon in different directions. On a monitor, a clear, magnified view of the colon lining is presented from the camera.

Colonoscopy Reasons

A colonoscopy is used to find the colon polyps, which can be cancerous, along the lining of the colon.

Signs and symptoms may be found by colonoscopy, including:

  • Rectal bleeding

  • Stool blood

  • Pus or mucus in the stool

  • Abdominal pain

  • Changes in bowel behaviour

  • Colorectal cancer screening and monitoring

Considerable Medical Issues

You must discuss a variety of problems with your doctor before the colonoscopy screening, including:

  • Whether you use aspirin, pradaxa, clopidogrel, or warfarin, to dilute your blood.

  • A list of medicines, minerals, vitamins, and herbal supplements, all (prescription and non-prescription)

  • A clean bowel to allow the doctor to view the lining of the colon. This process of cleaning is different, but your diet may be modified and some foods are avoided in the days before the procedure.

  • A bowel prep kit and guidance on how to use it are given. The kit consists of substances to purify the intestine. The laxative tablets and other preparations can also be used in fluids designed to boost bowel movements. The instructions given by medical personnel are crucially closely followed.

Procedure for colonoscopy

An intravenous line in the back of your hand is placed before the colonoscopy procedure, which provides medications to make you relaxed and sleepy. Medications to provide profound sedation is given that prevent you from recollecting or feeling pain.

Once the colonoscope reaches the point at which the colon connects the small intestine, it is withdrawn by the doctor carefully looking at the lining of the colon. The doctor may take photographs. It usually takes between 15 to 30 minutes.

When polyps of the colon are detected during the colonoscopy screening, they are removed, and tissue is tested to determine whether the polyp has cancer. The removal of polyps could lead to bleeding. Bleeding with clips or other methods may be stopped during the procedure. Blood transfusion or the reinsertion of the colonoscope may be needed to control bleeding when the bleeding is severe.
